Reducing HIV/STI Risks and improving Treatment for Male Sex Workers (MSW) in Mombasa, Kenya.

The Pre-intervention cross-sectional survey was basically to give insight about who the MSW are, their sexual orientation and risk taking behaviour so has to design an innovative and sustainable intervention program.
During the survey, 511 MSW were contacted, of which 425 survey interviews were done.
Additional 10 in-depth interviews and 3 FGDs were also conducted.
During the intervention period, the following activities were carried out, 40 peer leaders were trained on-;
- Participatory peer education.
- Basic Counselling skills.
- Alcohol and drug addiction counselling.
Other activities were-:
- MSM friendly drop-in centre was opened.
- Condom and water based lubricant were promoted and distributed.
- MSM peer education sessions conducted by the trained peer educators and regularly supervised by the project field coordinators and the MSW appointed zone leaders.
- Promotion of MSM friendly Voluntary Counselling Testing.
- Out reach VCT and condom distribution activities by MSW and FSW.
- Condom distribution to MSW mapped hot-spots.
- Health service providers trained on anti stigma - sensitive MSM specific STI’s treatment.
