In addition to the management, technical support and policy guidance of the project by the Africa Division, to support the implementation of country projects, a regional coordination Office was established at UNFPA Country Support Team based in Dakar (Senegal). This project was designed in a context marked by poor Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health indicators and the big threat of HIV/AIDS and other STIs among young people. Further, the willingness of governments in the region to translate in concrete interventions, commitments they made during ICPD in Cairo 1994 was also a contributing factor to the intervention. The goal of the project is to contribute to the improvement of ASRH/HIV in its interventions areas in selected West African countries. The primary audience of the project is composed of young people 10 – 24 years old, male and females with an emphasis on vulnerable and hard to reach young girls. In early 2004, the project implementation was reviewed and necessary revisions and recommendations were made to improve the project. In 2006 ICRH was invited to coordinate the final evaluation of the programme.
