Prof. Obimbo Moses Madadi

SRHR Advisor

Prof. Obimbo Moses Madadi is a distinguished clinician-scientist and advocate for women’s health, serving as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Human Anatomy and Medical Physiology at the University of Nairobi, where he also holds a faculty position in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is a practising Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Kenyatta National Hospital, Honorary Secretary of the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS), and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for Eastern and Central Africa (JOGECA).

A Calestous Juma Science Leadership Fellow of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Prof. Obimbo leads pioneering research on the microbiome’s role in adverse pregnancy outcomes, sexually transmitted infections, HPV and genital tract malignancies, and placental biology through the Basic, Clinical and Translational (BCTr) Research Laboratory and KAVI–Institute of Clinical Research.

He spearheaded ‘Run for Her’, the first-ever global postpartum haemorrhage awareness run, spotlighting the leading cause of maternal death in Africa. At ICRHK, Prof. Obimbo serves as SRHR Advisor and is the Principal Investigator of the Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) Study, funded by the Gates Foundation. Drawing on his deep expertise in reproductive biology, translational research, and capacity building across Africa and beyond, he brings exceptional scientific leadership and mentorship to ICRHK’s mission of advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights.
